Foals – Blue Blood
Music video with a special film language and elaborate progressively rising dramaturgy. We’re witnessing a rare and special event, that transcends everyday (school) life. Year 2010.
Story
A disorderly, neglected schoolboy awaits his chance to express his love at a school’s talent show. A crumpled sheet of paper with lyrics shows that he’s been preparing for this for a long time. He climbs on the stage wearing a hooded winter coat, which shows his introvertion and stage fright, he’s probably often bullied by other students. When the music starts, he slowly steps out of his shell by ignoring everybody around him and only sees his love. The world around him is as if it doesn’t exist. An interesting detail is, when he runs his fingers through his hair and then looks at them, because they’re filthy – a noticeable difference between the outside appearance and inwardness, which are very different; for a moment he is absorbed in his slovenly appearance and introverza trenutek se zamisli nad svojo zanemarjeno podobo ter introversion, but that doesn’t really disturb him from his act. The scene in content (and choreography) reminds of a scene in the movie Napoleon Dynamite (2004), although in a different context (Vote for Pedro!).
The message
Are you brave enough to be who you are?
The outer beauty isn’t as important as the inner beauty. After all, we’re all just bodies with hidden contents. The exterior is just a surface camouflage… to express belonging to or standing out of (social) environment.
You’ve got blue blood on your hands, I know it’s my own.
You came at me in the middle of the night to show me my soul.
Of all the people, I hoped it’d be you.
To come and free me, take me away.
To show me my home.
Where I was born.
Where I belong.
You’ve got blue blood on your hands, I want you to know.
Then I bite my nails to the quick, and run back home.
[Chorus]
You showed me. Where to go.
To my home. To my home.
So take me. Through the roads.
That you know. To my home.
[Bridge]
You’ve got blue blood on your hands, I know it’s my own.
You came at me in the middle of the night to show me my soul.
[Chorus]
You showed me. Where to go.
To my home. To my home.
So take me. Through the roads.
That you know. To my home.
[Break]
(Come with me accept it, affect it, protect it.
Come with me accept it, so now you know).
(Come with me accept it, affect it, protect it.
Come with me accept it, so now you know).
[Chorus] [Break]
You’ve got blue blood on your hands, I know it’s my own.
Of all the people, I hoped it’d be you.
You’ve shown me my way back home.
To where I was born.
